Decor & Color

Ideally, you should build the decorative components of the room such as furniture upholstery and window treatments, around your rug.

If this is not possible, your color and design selection should be carefully coordinated to work with the existing environment.

If you have concerns about color, or if you are adding a rug to an existing room, don't hesitate to bring a sofa pillow, fabric sample or paint swatch to a dealer showroom. Most quality dealers can help you identify your color family and suggest coordinating colors that will enhance a room.

There are many options when selecting a color scheme for the room where you want to place the rug. Generally, color selections are grouped together by color families.

PRIMARY COLORS
Primary colors are the fundamental colors that make up all other colors. These colors include royal blue, cherry red and sunny yellow. Primaries always exhibit the most pure pigments of color.
NEUTRAL COLORS
Neutral colors are usually subdued, generally light and fairly nondescript. Neutral colors include beiges, pale roses, subtle yellows and off-whites. These colors create a calm feeling.
WARM EARTH TONES
Warm earth tones are red-tone colors that can be found in nature, such as beige, sand tones, pumpkin orange and avacado green. These colors convey warmth that usually display a yellow cast.
COOL EARTH TONES
Cool earth tones have a bluish cast and appear to be the cooler colors found in nature. Colors that may be identified as cool earth tones are taupe, slate blue, teal and most shades of gray.

If you feel confident in making your own decisions about color and design, it is possible to make your own rug selections. Otherwise, a qualified dealer or design professional can assist you in your decision making.
