On Saturday, February 9, 2008, John Megerian of Megerian Rugs, was elected as the President of the Armenian Rug Society. John Megerian personally thanked all board members for their trust and discussed the goals of the ARS for the coming years. Among some of the upcoming goals, the ARS plans on expanding the Armenian Rug Society internationally by creating headquarters in Yerevan, Armenia. The latest and most successful exhibition which the ARS participated in was the Armenian Odyssey in 2006 in Atlanta, which was held in conjunction with Megerian Rugs. The ARS is in the process of planning new and exciting potential exhibits. The possible venues include the United Nations; the Megerian Showrooms in New York City; Sardarabad Museum in Yerevan, Armenia; or Los Angeles, California. Joe Bezdjian was appointed as Vice-President of the Armenian Rug Society. Lorraine Parker remained as the ARS treasurer and Karleen Hall remained as the ARS secretary. The purpose of the Armenian Rug Society has been to expound the truth about the history and heritage of Armenian rugs. Armenian rugs have long been (and continue to be) a significant part of the history of the rug industry and of rug weaving. The ARS intends to document the development and contribution of the Armenian weavers to the art history of the world. |
